The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday May 26, 2024        Bohm            

 - In service. Get keys, check LYC and Hemingway. No missed calls or messages. Deliver new sign to home on SE 10th St.

1225 - Called in to Hudson line and started house checks.

1330 - House checks completed. Continue roving patrols.

1500 - Patrolled mainland and area parks.

1530 - Assist FR with traffic transporting a child.

1700 - Patrolled isles, LYC, Hemingway.

1830 - Patrolled mainland. Continue patrols.

1845 – Traffic stop at 1100 SE 6th St. FL-XXXXXX. Reckless, vehicle towed.

Happy Memorial Day ! 

In- service - I checked isles and I then parked on Ponce and walked around the area for a bit; I checked all aways homes and spoke with residents out walking 

0630  I continued patrols, I checked isles. I checked by all parks and along Federal Hwy. 

0730  I continued patrols; No calls, no voicemails . I checked through LYC and by Hemmingway

Monday May 27th, 2024             Wright         

In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. There was one voicemail about

“people using the vacant lot at the SE 10th ST dead-end as a park.”; no texts or emails. Updated out of town log, reviewed prior activity log, and drove through Hemmingway.

1515: Responded to SE 10th ST dead end to assess situation; turns out the temporary construction fence has been blown over which gives the impression its ‘open to the public.’ I made contact with property manager (boat captain) who has been trying to have the fence fixed but he has to go through numerous channels and is hitting a roadblock…apparently the fence bases are bent/broken and unable to be stood upright. I put up yellow tape across the open section to deter people from trespassing onto the private lot - sent text to reporter advising such and deleted voicemail.

1545: Start roving patrol of HOA.

1630: Only a few people enjoying VSY park; it's too HOT! 

1730: Still roving all surface streets and isles.

Secured early / went back on duty reference large disturbances on beach for memorial day; case # 24-094440. Hudson line updated.

Tuesday May 28th, 2024             Muccino         

In service, no new calls or messages on phone. Began roving patrols

1700  continuous patrols of mainland and Isles, all clear

1830  completed all vacation checks

In- service - I checked isles and I then parked on Ponce and walked around the area for a bit; I checked all the away homes spoke with residents out walking 

0630  I continued patrols, I checked isles. I checked by all parks and along Federal Hwy. 

0730  I continued patrols; No calls, no voicemails . I checked through LYC and by Hemmingway

Wednesday May 29th 2024         Perdue           

-In service, Checked phone and found one missed call. No message left. I called the number back and did not get an answer.

1400- Case# 34-2405-05402 I spoke with Sgt. Dameron and learned of an Aggravated assault on construction workers at the end of SE 10th street that happened early this morning. Suspect James Pete Spiska was located and arrested.

1500- Patrolled mainland and area parks.

-Out of service.

Thursday   May 30th 2024          Perdue           

-Inservice. No missed phone calls. One text message about a car alarm on on SE 12th Street. Patrolled the area and found no issues.

1400-Out of town checks. No issues observed.

1500-Patrolled Federal Hwy business district. Patrolled all Isles and parks.

-Out of service.

Thursday  May 30th, 2024            Bohm          

 - In service. Pick up keys, check LYC and Hemingway.

1645 - Get the phone, call Hudson line. Start roving patrols.

1800 - Patrolled Isles, and Ponce.

1900 - Checked Federal Hwy businesses.

1925 - Traffic stop at 900 Ponce; Veh ran 2 stop signs. Warnings issued.

2030 - Patrolled mainland and area parks.

2200 - Assist removing a homeless male from LYC. I found the subject trespassing at a construction site and removed him from the neighborhood. 

0000 - Continue roving patrols.

In- service - I checked isles and I then parked on Ponce and walked around the area for a bit; I checked all the away homes.

0500: Still finishing up checks; all quiet.

Friday   May 31, 2024                Fautas        

- In service and detail called in.

1400- All secure.

1500- All secure. LYC checked and secure. I checked home on Ponce and the homeowner left. Residence was checked and secure.

1600- Area patrolled and secure.

Saturday   June 01, 2024           Fautas        

- In service and detail called in. No new messages were left on the phone.

1230- Area patrolled and secure. Stationary at the dead end of SE 10th Street.

1330 Area secure. Vacation checks completed. Found a rear unlocked door at home on Ponce, the same door as last week. I attempted to make contact with the owner with no success. I did however reach his son who is returning tomorrow and will secure the door.

1430- Area secure.

1530- Area patrolled and secure. The owner of the ponce home called me back and at his request and assistance, I went into his residence, secured the rear door and reset his alarm. 

1630- All secure.

Sunday  June 2nd, 2024            Bohm          

 - In service. Collect keys, check LYC and Hemingway. Pick up phone and return missed call then review log.

1530 - Call into Hudson phone and start house checks.

1630 - House checks completed. Continue roving patrols.

1715 - Found a loose dog 900 Ponce. Owner contacted and retrieved the dog. 

1900 - Text of vehicle alarm going off again at home on SE 12th St. This is the same vehicle that has been called on several times. I located the vehicle while the alarm was still going off. I spoke the the property owner and she said she did not know who the car belonged to. Tag came back to the same property owner but to another vehicle, expired in 2023. The vin came back to another and had not been registered. Property owner then admitted she bought the car in March 2023 and did not register. I then caught her deliberately setting off the alarm with a remote. I had the vehicle towed.

Monday    June 3, 2024         Ferrer       

In- service - I checked isles and I then parked on Ponce and walked around the area for a bit; I started checking away homes and spoke with residents out walking . 

0630  I continued patrols, I checked isles . I checked through LYC and Hemmingway all secure 

0730  I continued patrol checked by all of the parks and finished house checks.  found vehicle door open at home on SE 11 CT but, couldn’t get a hold of the owner; rest of property was secure - unable to secure vehicle case # 34-2406-098543. While at this property, a resident drove by advising his vehicles were burglarized. Responded to home on SE 11th CT and found that both vehicles were rummaged through with items taken from one; FLPD case # 34-2406-098555.  Possible culprit vehicle silver older Toyota Corolla with two black males wearing hoodies .

One call / voicemail received - spoke with the resident.

In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. No texts but, one email and one missed phone call. Email=out of town check added; texted caller but, they did not need assistance (was homeowner from home on SE 11th CT). Had numerous subsequent texts back and forth with resident; will perform extra patrols of residence and parked Rio car at location.

1700: Non-stop roving patrol of entire HOA.

1800: Flagged down reference an ex employee harassing a SE 10th ST resident; obtained photo and sent to Rio group chat to keep an eye out for subject.

1830: Was invited to 10-year-old’s slumber party; had to respectfully decline the offer as they were not serving pizza.

Tuesday    June 4, 2024         Muccino      

in service. One missed call, on call back it was a resident that found a lost dog but had already reunited with its owner. Began roving Patrols and completed vacation checks.

1700  Continued roving patrols on vacation checks, all clear. Conducted drive by checks of areas of recent burglaries and resident who was being harassed.

1800: Still roving non-stop, no issues. The fence complaint (from 5/27) has been resolved; the property has installed more permanent fencing instead of the temporary fence stands.
