The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday  February 19, 2023     

1730 - in service. No new texts, voice mail or missed calls. 

1800 - completed out of town checks and started patrol

1900- patrol of mainlands and business along Federal Hwy

2000 - patrol of isles, all clear

2030 - out of service. 

Monday Feb20, 2023    

Happy President’s Day

0400 10-8 called in detail. I drove surface streets I checked along Ponce and parked and walked area for a bit spoke with lots of residents out walking. 

530 I patrolled all of the isles and through LYC .  

0630 I checked all surface streets on mainland and away home. I checked through all parks all quiet 

0800 I patrolled all of the isles and along fed hwy.  I checked by parks no issues . 

0900 10-7

1600: In service. There were no new missed calls or emails but, two texts (at 1525 hrs) 

reference an alarm. Alarm came into PD at 1530 23-035271; patrol responded and advised that all was secure. Officer advised there was a Burglary/Auto Theft in December (22-228437) overnight from 0100-0800 of the residents vehicle. I moved a package to the rear of the residence and had a dialogue via text with the resident. Resident advised they were unable to get a hold of anyone to request out of town checks; advised to text the Rio phone and/or email This email address is being protected from spambots.             Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1700: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, BCS, and Fed Hwy

1800: Still roving

1945: Police assist for detail Sgt. at BHMC reference a patient was being admitted and 

            needed to make sure there was someone home to take care of her dog. 

Eventually made contact with residents POA and advised of the situation; POA will take care of dog until owner is released from hospital. Case # 23-035446

2000: Still roving.

2100: Out of service. 

2200- in service. No new emails, texts or calls. Began patrol of mainland and isles

2315 continued patrol of mainland, isles and house check

2400- continued patrol of mainland, isles and house check

0030- out of service

Tuesday Feb 21, 2023

0730-  In service, called in detail. no new messages and starting patrol

0830-  patrolling the isles

0930-  watching stop signs and traffic on Cordova

1000-  completed checks and a patrol of the isles

1115-  completed checks and a patrol of the mainland, 1 robo-call from a 877 number

1230-  out of service

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023

2200- in service no new texts, emails, calls. Began patrol and house checks

2330- continued patrol. Waved down about vehicle with car door open.  Located vehicle with door open. Made contact with owner of vehicle who advised door was accidentally left open and no criminal activity occurred

Thursday Feb 23, 2023    

0730-  In service, called in detail. 2 new messages reference HOA stickers. Starting patrol

1100-  completed checks on the isles

1215-  completed checks and added 3 stickers to signs

2200- in service and no new emails, texts, calls. Began patrols of island and isles

Saturday Feb 25, 2023      

0015- in service no calls, texts, emails. Began patrols of mainland and isles

0110- continued patrol of mainland and isles. Checked on two individuals sitting in the grass in the 1600 block of 11th st waiting for Uber and checked fine.

0200- continued patrol

0245- out of service 

0915-  In service, called in the detail. no emails, no new messages. Starting patrol

1015-  patrolling the isles

1115-  still on patrol and sitting stopsigns on Cordova

1215-  completed a patrol of the isles

Sunday February 26, 2023  

1745 - in service, one text, “a red Frontier pick up truck has been slowly driving up 9th street. Now he’s stopped on 9th Ave”.  

1815- completed out of town checks 

1830 - began patrol of the isles. I was informed that there was a dog on a run. I located the dog running loose in Ponce De Leon. Returned her home.

1900 - patrol of the isles

Monday Feb 27, 2023              

0430 10-8 called in detail. I moved detail car to 9th and Córdova. I walked back to my car and then  I drove surface streets I checked along Ponce and parked and walked area for a bit spoke with lots of residents out walking. 

530 I patrolled all of the isles and through LYC .  

0630 I checked all surface streets on mainland and away homes. I checked through all parks all quiet 

0800 I patrolled all of the isles and long fed hwy.  I checked by parks no issues . 

0900 10-7

1600: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. There are no new emails or texts but, 

one missed (spam) call. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1700: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and BCS. 

1800: Still roving. 

1816: Call of a suicidal male in the 900 blk of S Fed; patrol and I responded and made 

contact with him; TOT BHMC w/o incident. 23-040692

1900: All quiet.

2000: Still roving

2020: Huge train of night time bicycle riders passing through.

2100: Out of service. 

2300- in service no new emails, calls, or texts. Began patrol of mainland and isles

2400- continued patrol

Tuesday, February 28th, 2023  

2015- in service - no new calls, texts, or emails. Patrol if mainland and isles

2130- patrolled isles and LYC

2230 - checked parks and mainland

1230- patrol of isles

0100- patrol of mainland and out of town homes. Residence had open door to garage on the west side. Interior door was secure and no force observed. Door was locked and secured. Truck in driveway had front passenger window open enough for someone to get in. No damage observed to truck and items of value (I.e. racket, change) observed still in vehicle. Contact info states son will check on house occasionally. Contacted son via text on Rio Vista phone with no response. 34-2303-041712 for the open door/property check

Wednesday March 1, 2023

1000-  patrol of the isles

1115-  contacted by resident of a possible coyote sighting by the park at 9St and S. Rio. He stated he would send a photo as soon as possible. Capt. Scelfo advised. 

1156- contacted by a resident of a possible male attempting access residence front door. Arrived on scene and found a flyer on the doorknob No further concern

1300-  patrol of the mainland, out of service

1600-  In service, no new calls or voicemails on Rio phone.  Began patrols.

1700-  Patrols all clear, no suspicious activity observed.

1800-  Call for service received in reference to a vehicle burglary that occurred on the 1600 blk of SE 10th St.  Suspect vehicle was a white Honda Civic, and incident was documented under case number 34-2303-042232.  

2000-  Out of service.

Thursday March 2, 2023          

0745-  in service, detail called in, starting patrol and property checks

1000-  completed checks and a patrol of the isles

1215-  completed all checks and a patrol of the mainland

1245-  out of service

2200- in service. Responded to two calls from Rio Vista phone via text. Received replies and issues involving a male yelling about a cart in the road and an unknown male in the 8th st isle. Issues resolved at the time of my response. No further texts or emails.

2230- began house checks and patrol of mainland and isles

2350- continued patrol of mainland and isles

0050- continued patrol of mainland and isles

0200- continued patrol

Friday March 3, 2023      

0630-  in service, detail called in, starting patrol and property checks, no new messages, 

0900-  completed checks and a patrol on the isles, sat several stop signs with no issues

1100-  all checks complete, completed a patrol of the mainland, no issues

1130-  out of service

1400-  In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log. One new voicemail about the construction vehicles blocking the roadway in the 1700 block of SE 9 Street.  I called him back and spoke to him about the issue

1430- Patrolled the isles and yacht club

1500- Checked mainland and parks.

1600- Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1630- Final patrol of isles and mainland

1645- Flagged down about a fire hydrant leaking at SE 9 ST & N. Rio. I called it in.

1700- Out of service.

Saturday March 4, 2023            

0745-  in service, detail called in, starting patrol and property checks, no new messages,

1017-  received a call for new house check, added 

1100-  completed checks and a patrol of the isles, watched several stop signs, 0ne verbal warning given,

1300-  2 messages for stickers, delivered

1500-  completed checks and a patrol of the mainland

1545-  out of service
