CITY COMMISSION WORKS ON NEW BUDGET
 
Fort Lauderdale city logoFort Lauderdale's City Commission continues work on the FY 2009/2010 budget with budget hearings scheduled for Sept. 9th and Sept. 23rd, along with its regular Commission meeting on Sept. 15th.  The proposed budget, which cuts taxes, was submitted to the Commission and made available for public review on July 21.  As proposed, the budget addresses the five key priorities of the Commission:
1. ............No property tax increase
2. ............No increase in the fire assessment fee
3. ............Maintenance of adequate reserve funds
4. ............No reductions in vital City services
5. ............No layoffs

Under the proposal, taxpayers with a homestead exemption
will see an average savings of $162.78 on the City
portion of their tax bills. Taxpayers without a homestead
exemption will save an average of $276.24.

The budget proposes no increase to the current operating
millage rate of 4.1193, the City's lowest tax rate in 23
years - among the lowest of Florida's 20 largest cities and
among the lowest in Broward County.

HARBORDALE CRIME WALK

'A GOLDEN HOMECOMING' - AT ISHOF WITH U.S. OLYMPIC CHAMPION DIVER GREG LOUGANIS
 
On Sunday evening, September 13th, 2009, a fundraiser for four local not-for-profit organizations will remember and celebrate the legacies of two cultural icons, Greg Louganis and Ryan White. Please join the International Swimming Hall of Fame, in Fort Lauderdale, for an evening that will see Greg reunited with his 1988 Gold Medal that he had given to the young boy who had been diagnosed with AIDS.
 
As an attendee, you will also be invited to the "invitation
only" public opening of the exhibit, on Monday,
September 14th, featuring Master of Ceremonies Craig
Stevens, Greg Louganis, Jeanne White-Grinder,
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Broward,
County Vice-Mayor Ken Keechl and Ft. Lauderdale
Mayor, Jack Seiler, along with a host of other US Olympic
Swimming Medal Winners and other celebrities.
